Faces in the Day

Gray mid November Monday.  The Holidays and the end of the year arising fast. Wanting to sit in the slowness of the present moment.

The Cape

At the urging of his daughter, the middle aged man put on a cape and a crash helmet before going to work.  He vowed to keep it on all day.  He felt transformed and the world seemed to treat him differently.  No large heroic acts where performed, only small politenesses and smiles given and received.  These did seem to make a difference.  At the end of the day the man went home, took off the cape and helmet, sat down to face his mountain of bills to pay, the low balance alert from the bank, news about the war on terror, and all the small failures life brings. A sadness welled up inside.  He thought of the cape and decided to put it back on.

Facing October

Mid October and the devils, witches, and ghosts are hard at work performing their tricks, torments, and occasional treats.  All that orange combined with the hot weather of Santa Ana winds has made for much fire fighting. I would rather hide, but I know the best tactic is to stand still, face the fire and do what seems right. Then make corrections when it is not.  In between there have been glimpses of beauty: a mystical sunset seen while driving to Santa Barbara.  The sun looked like it was melting into the sea.  And last night the trees around my house where aglow in the orange light of evening. Tricks and treats abound.

Crazy Fear

The summer started mild and sweet then took its own course.  Maybe it was going to the David Lynch meditation documentary or getting Netflix and watching Upstream Color and a movie about a team of card counting Christians that did it.  I'm sure that staying up past my bedtime to see Matrix Re-loaded didn't help.

Upside Down

Plans were made, the path was clear.  The adventure started.  Then a small snag, which was corrected. Then another and another.  All dealt with, all fixed.  But the universe had different ideas so it sent bigger problems and then bigger and bigger which as they unfolded provided more unexpected issues.  The sailor was pushed far off course, so far he could not remember the course he had set off on. But there was no time to lament for he had face that which was in front of him and respond even through the celestial forces had thrown him upside down.

Meeting Notes: Faces

Yes, it was time for one of those meetings again.  Maybe it was that the meeting was held on the cusp of the Summer Solstice because this one felt lighter and more upbeat than most.  Or perhaps it was the bouncing beach ball color naming game played.  In any event, the best part was seeing old friends and the brain simulation of new synapse connections made by interacting with the group's ideas, knowledge, and insights.

Think

Haunted by the dreams of the night which electroshock to awake me to the black darkness of stillness.  Their lingering transparent ghosts fade in and out throughout the day never stopping long enough for me to understand their full meaning.  Sleep comes and they reappear bringing their emotional resonance again.

Seen and noted

The flow of life keeps flowing or as a friend says, "Life Happens", so true. A few of the flowing things that  happened in my life (among many) the past week where a trip to see the Poly High School Choir and the Los Angeles Natural History Museum.  I scrawled a few notations of the events in my sketchbook (above).

A Weekend Travel Log

A short jaunt to San Francisco.  Ate great Mexican food in a dangerous neighborhood. Watched sailing in an upper crust area. All of the San Franciscans where happy sun worshiping during the hot, clear blue sky weekend.
